North Coast Endurance Race Promises Big Payoff for Trail Runners

23 October 2026

Trail runners seeking the ultimate challenge should consider the North Coast events in England and the revitalized NorthCoast 24-Hour Endurance Run in Ohio. While different in setting, both share a common philosophy: pushing physical limits while competing for significant prizes tied to each location.

The North Coast 110, rebranded from its previous name for the 2024 season, offers runners an unforgettable experience: traversing damp coastal terrain while battling fierce winds along England's rugged shoreline. This demanding course combines elements of adventure trekking with pure trail running, incorporating segments inspired by iconic routes like the Three Peaks Challenge and Torridon Mountains circuit.

From Hartland Quay and Devil's Elbow to Baggy Point and the striking silica dunes of Braunton Burrows, runners will encounter some of Britain's most breathtaking landscapes. The journey becomes especially memorable at Combe Martin, where competitors tackling the 95-mile stretch from Minehead can still be seen pushing through the challenging coastal terrain.

Organizers describe the 178-kilometer route as their most demanding course to date, allowing participants 38 hours to complete the challenge. This extended cutoff provides ample opportunity to appreciate the dramatic scenery, conditions permitting.

American counterpart draws elite athletes

The 24-hour endurance race in Cleveland, Ohio continues to establish itself as a premier US event, regularly attracting the nation's top ultrarunners to compete for distance records.

Recent standout performances include Philip MacArthur's 2018 victory at the North Coast 24-Hour, where he became the only competitor to exceed 240 kilometers, earning $900. Jill Perry secured the same prize for her 219km achievement, while Anna Piskorska claimed the women's title.

Both North Coast endurance events combine world-class competition with stunning natural backdrops and prize purses reaching $7,000.
